The Rivermen Take First Overall With A Big Win Over The North Stars

The Six Nations Rivermen (14-2) faced the Owen Sound North Stars (4-10-1) in Ontario Series Lacrosse action at the Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound, Ontario.
Six Nations could wrap up first overall in the league with a win in this game. While Owen Sound could guarantee fourth with a victory.
The goaltending match-up had Dusty Hill in net for the Rivermen facing Ethan Woods for the North Stars.
A very entertaining first period had the teams tied 2-2 at the half way point. The Rivermenwere able to capitalize on a few Owen Sound miscues to take a 4-2 lead at the intermission.
The second period had Six Nations take over the play scoring six times. Sam LeClair (4g,2a) had a pair in the period sparking the Rivermen offense.
Owen Sound mounted a comeback in the third period with Carter Moran (3g,1a) and Jake McNabb (2g,5a) taking charge. Zach Herrewyers (1g,4a) was instrumental in the Rivermen win setting up a couple of goals down the stretch. Six Nations takes the victory 14-9.
To The Game:
After half a period of end to end action, the Rivermen finally got on the board with Sam LeClair finishing a Jordan Goddard feed at 7:17, followed by Kaden Brennan blasting a Mason Hill pass in 0:33 seconds later.
Jordan Caskenette responded for the North Stars with a pair of goals. The first was a low to low shot that beat Dusty Hill to the shortside off a Jake McNabb pass at 8:21, followed by a low laser again off a McNabb feed at 9:54 on the power-play.
Danton Miller gave the Rivermen the lead once again with a power-play marker off a Sam LeClair pass at 11:53, followed by Zach Herrewyers with a shot from in close off a LeClair pass at 19:56.
After one period, Six Nations 4 Owen Sound 2.
Shots on goal were even at 12-12.
Second Period:
Mike McLaughlin opened the second period scoring increasing the Six Nations lead in transition off a long lead pass from Dusty Hill at 3:16, but Carter Moran's laser brought Owen Sound back in the game off a Jake McNabb pass at 4:09.
Sam LeClair converted a Mason Kamminga pass at 10:18, followed by Greg Elijah-Brown with a howitzer off a Zach Herrewyers pass at 11:24.
Carter Moran's second of the game on the power-play got Owen Sound closer, but Jacob Crans answered with a low laser unassisted at 15:27.
The Rivermen finished the period strong with two more tallies. Sam LeClair added his third of the game off a Zane Delpe pass at 18:52, followed by Kaden Brennan with a late transition goal off an Oakley Thomas feed with just 0:07 seconds remaining in the period.
After two periods, Six Nations 10 Owen Sound 4.
Shots on goal favored Owen Sound 15-13.
Third Period:
The North Stars opened the third period scoring with Nathan Laycock converting a Brody Caskenette pass at 2:46, followed by Carter Moran's third of the game off a Jake McNabb feed at 3:50.
Jake McNabb got Owen Sound within three goals with a power-play goal unassisted at 6:19, but Sam LeClair's fourth of the day stopped the North Stars run off an Oakley Thomas feed 0:37 seconds later.
Jordan Caskenette added his third of the game off a Jake McNabb pass at 7:21, but Ross Hill responded for the Rivermen finishing a Zach Herrewyers pass with a quick stick at 12:48.
Jordan Goddard increased the Six Nations lead with a laser off a Zach Herrewyers pass at 13:46, followed by Kaden Brennan converting an Oakley Thomas pass at 16:45.
Jake McNabb added a late goal for the North Stars off a Brody Caskenette pass at 19:06, but it was too little too late.
Final score, Six Nations 14 Owen Sound 9.
Shots on goal favored the Rivermen 15-13, for a game total of 40-40.
