A Strong Third Gives Owen Sound The Victory

The Hamilton Bengals (8-9-1) visited the Owen Sound North Stars (5-10-1) in Ontario Series Lacrosse action at the Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound, Ontario.
In the two meetings this year, Hamilton got the better of Owen Sound in both games. Hamilton led in goals per game 10.1-8.1, and goals against 8.1-10.2. Owen Sound led in special teams with 2.5-2.1 goals per game.
The goaltending match-up had Sam Haines in net for Hamilton facing Craig Wende in net for the North Stars.
A very entertaining couple of periods of end to end action had this game tied 5-5 after two. Both Craig Wende and Sam Haines were putting on a clinic in net.
The Third period had Owen Sound finally break through with four goals (three from Brody Caskenette) to take a 9-5 lead. Hamilton tried to get back in the game, but Craig Wende was excellent down the stretch, preserving the 9-6 North Stars victory.
To The Game:
Jake McNabb opened the scoring for Owen Sound with a laser off a Riley Thompson pass at 2:38, but Shane Halliwell answered for the Bengals with a blast from in close off a Chris Dong feed at 4:35.
Adam Hawrelak gave Hamilton their first lead of the day converting a Halliwell pass at 5:23, followed by Halliwell scoring on the power-play off a Cam Milligan feed at 15:36.
McNabb got his second of the period for the North Stars to bring the game within one at 19:55, but Dawson Brown beat Craig Wende to the far side off an Andrew Vradenburg pass at 19:30.
Wyatt Barfoot again brought Owen Sound within one converting a Kinori Rosnow pass with just 0:19 seconds left in the period.
After one period, Hamilton 4 Owen Sound 3.
Shots on goal favored the North Stars 19-17.
Second Period:
Owen Sound tied the game when Nathan Laycock wired a Brody Caskenette feed in at 4:43, but Halliwell's third of the game off a Cam Milligan pass gave the Bengals the lead once more at 11:07. Jordan Caskenette again tied the game in transition off a Wyatt Barfoot pass at 12:49.
After two periods, Hamilton 5 Owen Sound 5.
Shots on goal favored Owen Sound 14-8.
Third Period:
The North Stars got rolling quickly in the third striking with two Brody Caskenette goals. First, finishing a Wyatt Barfoot pass at 3:43, followed by an outside blast off a Jake McNabb feed at 6:04.
Keagan Mcilmoyle added to the North Stars lead with a low laser to the shortside off a Carter Moran pass at 7:17, followed by Brody Caskenette's third of the period off a Jake McNabb pass 0:23 seconds later.
Tye Argent stopped the Owen Sound five goal run with a great individual effort unassisted at 8:55, but that was as close as it would get.
Final score, Owen Sound 9 Hamilton 6.
Shots on goal favored Hamilton 10-9 for a game total of 37-33 in favor of the North Stars.
